The company was founded as Correctional Medical Services (CMS), providing contracted healthcare services to correctional facilities.
2011
Merger and rebrand to Corizon Health
CMS merged with PHS Correctional Healthcare. The combined organization was renamed Corizon Health.

Mission and approach
Corizon Health's role is to deliver healthcare services inside correctional facilities on behalf of the government and corrections agencies that operate them. Services are defined by contract with each agency and are delivered within that facility's operational and security requirements.
Clinical program areas include primary and acute medical care, dental care, mental and behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, pharmacy services, optometry, chronic disease management and telehealth.
Care that cannot be provided on site is coordinated with community hospitals and specialty providers through the referral and transport processes agreed with the partner agency.
Accreditation & compliance
The National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) publishes standards for health services in correctional settings and accredits facilities that meet them. Accreditation is granted to the facility, and participation is voluntary.
Where a partner facility pursues or maintains NCCHC accreditation, Corizon Health supports that process through program policies, clinical documentation, staff credentialing and training records, and internal quality review.
