Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from corrections agencies, job candidates, families and the public.

About the company

What does Corizon Health do?

Corizon Health is a correctional healthcare company. We contract with government and corrections agencies to deliver medical, dental, mental health and pharmacy services inside jails, prisons and other detention facilities. We are not a walk-in clinic and do not serve the general public directly.

Who are your clients?

Our clients are county, state and municipal corrections agencies and the facilities they operate. Services are delivered under contract, with scope, staffing levels and performance standards defined by each agreement.

Where is Corizon Health located?

Our headquarters address is listed on the Contact page. Clinical operations are delivered on site at the facilities we serve.

Services and clinical operations

What services are provided at a facility?

Typical scope includes intake health screening, sick call, chronic disease management, emergency response, infirmary care where available, dental services, mental health screening and treatment, suicide-prevention support, medication management and pharmacy services, and coordination of off-site specialty and hospital care. Exact scope varies by contract.

What is PharmaCorr?

PharmaCorr is our pharmacy operation, which supports formulary management, order review, dispensing and medication delivery to the facilities we serve.

How is quality measured?

Quality is monitored through continuous quality improvement programs, mortality and morbidity review, chart audits, grievance review, and contract performance reporting to the client agency. Facilities may also pursue accreditation through bodies such as the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) or the American Correctional Association (ACA), and we support those processes where the agency elects to seek accreditation.

For families and the public

How do I get information about the care of someone in custody?

Contact the facility or agency of confinement directly. Health information about an individual in custody is protected and generally cannot be released to a third party without proper authorization and coordination with the facility.

How do I raise a concern about care at a facility?

Concerns should first be raised through the facility's health services or grievance process, which is the fastest route to review. Civil rights concerns may also be submitted as described in our Notice of Nondiscrimination.

How do I request medical records?

Record requests are handled through the facility or the contracting agency's records process, subject to HIPAA and applicable correctional-setting rules. See our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices for more detail.

For agencies

How do we start a conversation about a contract or RFP?

Use the agency path on our Contact page. Include the agency name, facility type and average daily population, current service model, and the timeline you are working toward.

Can services be tailored to a specific facility?

Yes. Staffing plans, on-site hours, service lines and reporting are structured around facility size, population profile, security level and the requirements set out in the agency's solicitation or contract.

Careers

What roles do you hire for?

Nursing, physicians and advanced practice providers, mental and behavioral health clinicians, dental staff, pharmacy staff, and administration and compliance personnel. Role categories are described on our Careers page.

Do I need prior correctional experience?

Prior correctional experience is helpful but not required for most clinical roles. New staff receive orientation covering facility security procedures, correctional healthcare protocols and documentation standards.

What does the hiring process involve?

Application review, interview, license and credential verification, and the background check and security clearance required by the facility. Timelines depend on the agency's clearance process.
